Hello and welcome to one of the largest and most versatile educational
outreach programs in the world.
Open University & Continuing Education at Florida Atlantic
University provides comprehensive, high-energy, consumer-oriented
learning programs. Over the past decade, educational outreach at
FAU has become an $8.2 million operation.
Why mention dollars first? Well, OUCE must support itself from
the fees paid by satisfied students and clients, which is an incentive
for entrepreneurial behavior that emphasizes quality and service.
This dedication to quality and service has produced a world-class
educational enterprise that in 1999-2000 had more than 15,000 students
in continuing education courses, 5,500 students in workforce development
programs, 2,300 distance education students and 18,000 members of
its Lifelong Learning Society.
An operation on this scale requires a commitment to some basic,
core values. Customer satisfaction, entrepreneurial behavior and
quality courses and instruction have already been mentioned. Yet,
OUCE has no greater resource than its people---their creativity,
their commitment to excellence and their strong belief in the value
of what they are doing.
I invite you to get to know us, and we want to get to know you,
and, in order to do this better, OUCE has launched a number of online
communities. All you need is email and a desire to work and learn
together. I invite you to join with me once a week to discuss subjects
of mutual interest and especially for me to get to know better what
you want from FAU.
