Carol was internationally educated, having studied in Jamaica, Mexico, Venezuela and the United States. In Jamaica, she taught Spanish at the high school and college level, and served as Oral Examiner of Spanish for Cambridge University in England. Later, she moved into teacher training and directed a teaching internship program at a Teachers College.

After migrating to the United States, she continued teaching and for thirteen years taught English as a Second Language and Spanish at several colleges including Florida Atlantic University. In addition to English, she speaks Spanish, Portuguese and French. This exposure to different languages and cultures has made her acutely aware of the needs of language learners. She currently serves as an Associate Dean and Director overseeing noncredit program activities, with direct responsibility for the Intensive English Institute and foreign languages.
